This short video provides a history and demonstration of the first patented automatic sprinkler; the Parmelee Sprinkler
patented in 1874. You'll notice that this Sprinkler discharges water in the upwards and downwards direction.
This is because our structures mainly consisted of wood in the eighteen-hundreds.
